Michael Kenfield, VMD

Dr. Michael Kenfield grew up in Raleigh, NC.  Before attending the University of Pennsylvania, College of Veterinary Medicine he taught all sciences except physics at St. George’s School in Middletown, RI from 1969-72.  He graduated with his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1977 and has been involved in veterinary medicine ever since.  Dr. Kenfield founded Portsmouth Veterinary Clinic in December of 1978.  In 1994, Dr. Gary O’Neal joined the practice and as the practice continued to grow, they moved the clinic into a larger facility in February 2008.  Dr. Kenfield is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, and enjoys volunteering with and assisting organizations that focus on wild life rehabilitation and reducing the feral cat populations through TNR programs (trap, neuter, release).  He has worked with the Robert Potter League for over 30 years, and also volunteers for Paws Watch TNR clinics and TNR clinics on Mustique Island in the West Indies and BWI.

Throughout his life, Dr. Kenfield has enjoyed manic bicycle racing, wind surfing, skeet shooting, skiing and guiding saltwater fly fishing trips.  These days he still pursues outdoor activities, but at a more restful pace!  He and his fiancé Mary love to boat the waters of Southern New England, always with fishing rods along, take leisurely nature walks and bicycle rides.  Playing with their cats and tasting the love in Mary’s incredible cooking fills their indoor hours with joy.  They have four wonderful and dynamic cats; Lorenzo and Rico from local rescue efforts, and Bigger and Little, brother island cats brought to the US from Mustique while volunteering at a TNR program.
